Rich Steak Dinner for Mom

by u235craig | May 8th, 2009

Mother’s Day is probably the worst day to go out to dinner. Restaurants are filled to capacity. The folks working in the restaurant are at a major stress level. The experience is not what it should be.

Stay home and fix mom a nice dinner, relax enjoy yourselves and save some money. I am going to fix New York Steaks with a mushroom gorgonzola sauce for my holiday dinner.

The sauce is easy. Saute some sliced mushrooms in olive oil over medium heat. After a few minutes add a half teaspoon chopped fresh garlic and let it cook about three more minutes. A half pint of whipping cream and a four ounces crumbled Gorgonzola cheese are added and allowed to simmer until smooth and creamy. Turn off the heat and let it sit.

Meanwhile, the steak gets sauteed in two tablespoons olive oil for about four to five minutes per side until internal temperature reaches about 120 degrees for medium rare. Remove the steak when temperature is reached and put it on a plate. Cover with the sauce and serve with a side salad and some simple pasta with olive oil. I would serve a bottle of Townsend T-3 a really mellow red blend from Spokane mom would like.

This nice meal should take about a half hour to do. Which should leave plenty of time to chat with mom.

KLA-HOW-YAH!

I grew up with a family that was truly Northwest. We were Hunter/Gathers. From clam digging and crabbing at Grayland, Huckleberry picking at Mount Adams, Salmon fishing and a Bear Hunt on the Straits of Juan De Fuca, Camping at my Aunt and Uncles Cabin at Monte Cristo, Oysters at The Doseiwallups on the Canal to Trout Fishing in British Columbia; I enjoyed it all growing up. We ate really good with the things we got. I learned well at a young age to enjoy life. Preparing a fine meal and pairing the wine to go with it can be intimidating. It doesn't have to be. It is and should be fun. So come along listen to my stories, try out my original recipes, and enjoy the wines I suggest. You might Like it!
